A tornado struck Atlantic Beach, New York, on Thursday evening as severe thunderstorms swept across Long Island.
The National Weather Service issued a tornado warning for parts of Nassau County, including Oceanside and Baldwin Harbor, from 6:52 p.m.

Impact & Risks

The tornado caused damage to beach structures, including the Sun and Surf Beach Club and Silver Point Beach Club, with winds estimated between 65-110 mph. Flooding on the South Shore of Nassau County led to vehicles being trapped, requiring rescue operations. While no injuries were officially reported, emergency teams were deployed to ensure no one was trapped in damaged areas. The heavy rainfall also caused localized flooding in Brooklyn, which recorded 3 inches of rain by 7:15 p.m. Residents in low-lying areas faced the highest risk of flooding and property damage.
